The Story Behind Special Ops Bodyguard - Beth Cornelison
Special Ops Bodyguard (Harlequin Romantic Suspense) is the second book in the Kelleys Legacy continuity. In Special Ops Bodyguard, Gage Prescott is a former Special Ops soldier who has been hired to protect Senator Hank
Kelley from an unknown group that is threatening the Senator's family. While in Maple Cove, MT with the senator, Gage meets Kate Rogers, the pastry chef at the local diner, who faces dangers of her own thanks to her sister's abusive husband. Gage cannot sit by and see the sisters threatened by Kate's abusive brother-in-law, but his involvement with Kate unwittingly leads an even greater threat to Kate's door--the organization trying to destroy Senator Kelley.
As happens with most continuity books at Harlequin, the plot for Special Ops Bodyguard was created by the editors in charge of the line. In this case, HRS senior editor, Patience Bloom, was the mastermind behind the series. But the first seeds of the continuity were planted at a conference in Florida a year or so ago, when Patience, another author and I had dinner together. Patience was musing aloud about developing another continuity for the Romantic Suspense line but felt after two Coltons series, readers might be looking for something a little different. The conversation turned to the fact that Patience had modeled two of the characters in the Coltons Montana series, Bonnie Gene and Donald Kelley, after her parents. She'd loved seeing those characters come to life and had an understandable soft spot for them.At this point in the dinner, I added two plus two (which is difficult for me, as I'm not typically mathematically inclined! :-) ) and I suggested she create a continuity that highlighted the rest of the Kelley family from the Coltons of Montana continuity with their own danger-filled storyline. Patience's face lit like the proverbial Christmas tree. And the Kelleys Legacy was born!
Happy reading!
