Safe with a StrangerSafer with a Stranger
by Linda Conrad
Release Date: May 27, 2008

Clare Chandler is literally running for her life with her two old son, Jimmy, when she meets Josh Ryan.  Several armed men begin chasing her as she leaves the bus station in Houston  to look  for an open  restaurant to get something for and Jimmy to eat. They are waiting for the next bus she hopes will take them to a safe place.  Gun men arrive on the scene and chase her through the dark streets.  Josh recognizes her distress and intervenes to save her and the boy.

Clare's ex-husband, a wealthy man with influence in an unidentified Middle East country, is tracking her down to gain custody of his only son.  Josh is not too happy to play the "rescuer" role but he puts her and her son in his truck, Lucille, and takes them to his home town in Zavala Springs, TX.  Josh thinks will be a safe haven for them but the thugs manage to discover where they are.  With the help of his mother and his brother, a plan is developed to  keep everyone out of  harm's way until Josh and Clare can get to Washington, DC to establish Jimmy's rights an American citizen.  Then his father can not take him back.

Josh and Clara have an immediate attraction for each other and it becomes a necessary plot device as their relationship grows stronger.  It helps that Jimmy grows to love Josh, and vice-versa.   Josh has "a gift" that allows him to see what happens in the future and he puts it to good  to unite him with Clare and Jimmy after Jimmy's abduction by his father’s  henchmen.

The title, Safe with a Stranger, is appropriately apt for this book as it signals the story's plot.  This is a fast, cliffhanger  read.  Great for a rainy afternoon, a trip to the beach, and because the reader likes romantic novels. Highly recommended.
