Silken Shadowsby Jennifer St. Giles
Release Date: December 4, 2007
Gemini Andrews is a woman with a secret, she can talk to dead people. They youngest of three sisters with psychic abilities, she is courageous, headstrong, and determined to help identify the man who has brutally murdered a number of innocent young woman. Probably the same man who murdered her own cousin. Her friends and family decree that she will have no part in the investigation. She decides her only recourse is to stow away on the ship of handsome Captain Deverell Jansen, the man who has stolen her heart. Deep feelings are aroused when circumstances force them into a hasty marriage. Gemini's innocent passion breaks down his attempts at restraint, and they become lovers in truth.
Captain Jansen is a man with his own secrets. He believes himself to be without honor, or anything of worth to offer a woman like Gemini. Yet, he can't deny his intense attraction to his unintended bride. He will do anything he can to keep her safe and happy. When she first reveals her secret, he doesn't believe her. A conversation with the spirits of two former mates who are watching over him convinces him otherwise. Deverell and his friends hope to save Gemini, and all the women of Northrope from the evil that is haunting its streets. Will the price be someone's mortal soul?
This book is smooth and satisfying, like a glass of fine wine. The characters capture your interest, and the strong pacing keeps you engaged as you travel down every exciting and twisted path the plot follows. The intensity of the story keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat, waiting to turn the next page. Gemini and Deverell are wonderful lead characters, with moments of humor interspersed in their romantic liaisons, and a sense of humanity that keeps them believable. The darkness of the character they are out to defeat is a great counterpoint to the romantic elements, and Ms. St. Giles is incredibly adept at blending the supernatural elements into this well-envisioned historical format. Between the hot scenes, the action scenes, and the moments that set your pulse pounding with fear, Silken Shadows is a book that should have a place of honor on your keeper shelf. I am a brand new fan.
